“Your seminar was helpful to me in a most singular way: it galvanized me to action...It was like a mini-vacation, getting each of us out of our work mode and into a place we needed to be, with other people who are writing. I would encourage anyone interested in getting their shit together (i.e. writing) to attend your seminar." -- Robin Godfrey, now author of Patriot Son, Patriot Father: Conversations Across the Divide
"My favorite thing about the workshop was that you made it seem possible. You didn’t promise us the Oprah Show, but you did make it seem possible that little ol’ me, could get a book published." Jane Marks, now author of Scarlett's Guide to Divorce Survival (divorcesisterhood.com)

Get It Published Retreat and Boot Camp for Nonfiction Writers
 Morris Harvey House
March 12-14, 2010
- A Retreat
…because you get to pull away from all the needy people and distractions that keep you from getting your book off the ground and out the door.
- A Boot Camp
…to shape up your book idea, pull out your best writing, build a book structure and write your agent-ready proposal.
- A Retreat
…because this camp takes place in the comfortable and elegant Morris Harvey House B&B. And only five participants (plus me) will share the entire mansion.

A Boot Camp
…because this retreat is about going the distance: getting your book concept good enough and your pitch strong enough to land you an agent. And an agent is what you need to Get It Published by a publisher.
Instructor: Laurie Helgoe, Ph.D., is the of author five mass-market books. Her recent book, Introvert Power: Why Your Inner Life is Your Hidden Strength received a Publishers Weekly starred review. Her publishers include Penguin, Sourcebooks, and publishers for translations in Chinese, Czech, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Helgoe is represented by Jessica Faust, BookEnds Literary Agency.
Eligibility: You are ready for boot camp if you have completed a Get It Published seminar or initial consultation, or you can obtain a waiver by following the instructions below.
If you have not completed the prerequisites but feel ready for boot camp, here's what to do:
1. Send me an email at lahelgoe@suddenlink.net with "waiver request" in the subject line. In the body of the email, include a short description of the book you want to write, indicate whether you have started to write the book and/or proposal (and if you have, what portions you've completed), and tell me a little bit about yourself. Keep the whole thing to 500 words or less – no manuscripts or other attachments.
2. I’ll give you some feedback on your idea and tell you what you need to do to prepare.
3. Participants with waivers will need to purchase and review the Book It! binder, which contains materials reviewed in the prerequisite seminar/consultation, including a proposal sketchbook and sample proposals. The binder is $40 and can only be purchased with the retreat registration (see next step).
4. Follow the registration instructions on this page. For the PayPal option, use the drop-down menu and select "Fee + Binder (with waiver)." Once you have registered and paid, let me know if you prefer to pick up your binder at Book It! Consulting in Charleston or to have it mailed to you (postage extra).
